A Dissertation is a larger version of a thesis and is usually required when an individual is pursuing his or her doctorate degree. It is a formal and very lengthy, written discussion of a subject, and can be up to 250+ pages. An oral presentation is often required as well.

The American Psychological Association (APA) format is often suggested when producing this document. However, there are other formats such as:

These formats convey the proper order and procedures of citing or referencing works from various sources that the document discusses. Referencing and illustrations include Table of Contents, page numbering, in-text citations, bibliographies, footnotes, tables/charts, and the like. Your professor will often indicate his or her preference of formatting.
